My Faith Journey: for Kids

Have you ever wondered what makes a person rich? Sometimes we think people are rich if they have a lot of money, a big house or drive fancy cars. But did you know that a person could have all those things, even be a millionaire, and still be very, very poor?

The Bible says, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world (lots of money) yet forfeits his soul.” (loses his chance to live with God in heaven forever) Matthew 16:26a (NIV)

Now, don’t misunderstand. There is nothing wrong with having money. In fact, the money that we have really belongs to God and He wants us to take good care of it. But there is something even more important than money that God wants us to take care of and that is our soul. Why? Because when we take care of our soul by choosing a relationship with Jesus Christ we get to live with God forever in heaven. Here is God’s love story of how you can be truly rich.

When God made us, He wanted us to get to know Him and love Him. Since He is our heavenly Father, He gave us rules in God’s Word to follow. Sometimes we don’t obey those rules and so we have to pay for our wrongdoings which the Bible calls sin. But because God loves us so much, He decided that Jesus would pay for our sins instead by dying on the cross. That’s how much God loves us.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV)

Even though Jesus paid for our debt of sins which means salvation is a free gift, that doesn’t automatically mean we are going to heaven. There are a few choices we must make personally. No one else can make these for us.

First, we must admit we have sinned and tell God we are sorry. Next, we must ask Jesus to forgive us for our sins. Finally, we need to accept what Jesus did for us and thank him for doing that.

If you would like to receive Christ as your personal Savior so you can live with God forever in heaven, the following prayer will help you do that.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I admit that I have done many wrong things and I am sorry. I accept Jesus’ death on the cross as payments for my sins. Thank you for forgiving me and letting me become your child. Thank you that I will live with you forever in heaven. Until then, please help me to obey you and to tell others about how much you love them too.
